Google Domains to Squarespace: Keep Your Business Email Working
Post-migration DNS checklist so email does not break when Squarespace manages your zone.
Millions of domains moved to Squarespace DNS. Re-verify MX and TXT after any nameserver change — email breaks silently if records are dropped.
What changed
Google sold its Google Domains registrations to Squarespace, and those domains moved to Squarespace’s DNS. Most records came across, but anyone who relied on Google Domains features, or who edited DNS during the move, should confirm the mail records are still right.
Post-migration checklist
- MX records still point to your mail host, with no leftovers from a previous provider
- Exactly one SPF TXT records (short text lines in DNS used for email security) exists at the root of the domain
- The DKIM TXT records (short text lines in DNS used for email security) is present at the right selector host name
- The DMARC record exists at _dmarc
- Any email forwarding you used still works, or has been replaced with real mailboxes
How to check
Look up the records with an online DNS tool or nslookup, and compare them with what your mail host expects. In OquMail, the domain page runs live verification and shows which record is missing or wrong. Then send a test message to an outside address and reply to it.
