Bluehost DNS Email Migration: Switch to OquMail Without Downtime
Lower TTL, parallel inboxes, and MX cutover strategy for Bluehost-hosted domains moving to modern business email.
Bluehost sites often used bundled email for years. Migration means exporting old mail (if needed), creating OquMail mailboxes, then swapping MX during a low-traffic window.
Cutover sequence
- Day −2: Lower TTL on MX to 300 seconds
- Day −1: Create mailboxes and test send/receive with temporary hosts file or direct SMTP
- Cutover: Replace MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC in Bluehost DNS
- Day +1: Confirm DMARC reports show alignment
- Decommission old Bluehost email mailboxes
