Amazon SES vs Business Email Hosting: Do You Need Both?
SES is cheap at scale but not an inbox. Learn when to pair SES with Google, when to use an all-in-one host, and how API-first platforms compare.
Amazon Simple Email Service is pennies per thousand messages — irresistible at scale. It is also not a mailbox. Engineering teams wire SES for outbound and still pay for Workspace or another host for humans.
Hidden SES costs
- Engineering time for SNS bounce handling and templates
- Separate inbox product for support and sales
- Sandbox limits and production access approval
- Reputation management without a friendly admin UI
The all-in-one shortcut
Below roughly 100k messages per month, an integrated host like OquMail often costs less in dollars and hours than SES plus Workspace — especially on the free tier.
