cPanel Email Alternative: When Shared Hosting Mail Is Not Enough

Hosting-panel mail breaks at scale. Modern webmail, API, and deliverability for domains on shared hosting.

cPanel mailboxes come free with cheap hosting — and often share IPs with spammers. Growing brands move mail to a dedicated host while keeping the website on cPanel.

Why hosting-panel mail causes trouble

  • Mail often goes out from the same shared server as many other websites, so one compromised site can hurt everyone’s sending reputation
  • SPF, DKIM and DMARC are sometimes left half-configured
  • Storage is shared with the website, so a full disk can stop mail
  • When you move web hosts, mailboxes move — or disappear — with them

Keep the website, move the mail

You can leave your site on cPanel and move only email by changing the MX records. In cPanel, use the Zone Editor to replace the MX records and set Email Routing to “Remote Mail Exchanger”, so the server stops treating mail for your domain as local. Then add the SPF, DKIM and DMARC records your new host gives you.

Moving existing mail

Add both the old cPanel mailbox and the new mailbox to one client, such as Thunderbird or Outlook, over IMAP and drag folders across. OquMail mailboxes support IMAP and SMTP, so the same client keeps working afterwards. See how to move email between mailboxes over IMAP.

Want to see how your own domain is set up? Use the free SPF checker, DMARC checker and MX lookup: they run in your browser and store nothing.
