IP warming is the practice of sending a small volume of email from a new IP address and increasing it gradually over days or weeks, so that receiving providers can observe good behaviour and build a positive reputation before they see large volume. A brand-new IP that suddenly sends thousands of messages looks exactly like a spam outbreak, so receivers throttle or block it. Warming is a bulk-sender concern; most small businesses using a hosted provider never need to do it.
